Advanced Fleet Management

Purpose:

The Diploma: Fleet Management has been developed to meet skills gaps that exist in South Africa’s unique and diverse labour market. The range of competencies contained in the learning programme will add value to and develop an understanding of this sector and assist the learner with functioning in the work place. It provides a consolidation of broad knowledge, skills and values needed in fleet management and associated fields in transport and logistics.

The programme will:

Facilitate access to, and mobility within fleet administration. It is a valuable programme for those practitioners in fleet operations that have worked in the industry for many years but who have not obtained any formal qualification.
Allow practitioners to extend their range of skills in order to become competent in managerial positions.
Assist learners to obtain a formal recognised qualification and to articulate to other related learning programmes on the NQF.
Capacitate learners to develop the required expertise to effect changes in the work environment that will benefit the employer directly and the country indirectly.

Rationale:

The Diploma: Fleet Management has been developed to provide qualifying learners with an appropriate learning programme in a distinguishable and clearly independent field of study.

This programme is directed towards learners that are already employed in the fleet management industry or those who wish to access positions in organisations that operate vehicle fleet and/or leasing operations. These include both public and private sector organisations or companies.

Fleet management has evolved into an independent profession. It is characterized by a body of knowledge with unique concepts and principles. There are many challenges facing fleet managers in both the public and private sector. Fleet management focuses on what is often considered to be the second largest investment made by an organisation after personnel costs. Effective fleet management operations can result in considerable savings. The programme will equip learners with the requisite skills and knowledge to manage fleet operations professionally. The learner will acquire a comprehensive and interrelated understanding of current and relevant fleet management theories and practices prevalent in this industry.

Course Pre-Requisites
