Why Attend

Donor Funded Projects course examines the role of the “project” relative to other aid delivery methods such as sector support and budget support used by the Donors/Development partners in pursuit of development cooperation objectives. An analysis of all the different phases of the project/programme cycle will be carried out to emphasise the methodology for preparing, implementing and evaluating projects and programmes sponsored by donors. Reference will be made to various Donors such as AfDB, ADB, World Bank, UNDP, GIZ, BADEA.

The course examines the role of the “project” relative to other aid delivery methods such as sector support and budget support used by the Donors/Development partners in pursuit of development cooperation objectives. An analysis of all the different phases of the project/programme cycle will be carried out to emphasis the methodology for preparing, implementing and evaluating projects and programmes. Particular effort will be made to bring clarity to the terminology used by the donors/development partners for the different stages for the project/programme cycle.

The principal training objective is to ensure participants have enhanced capacity and understanding in the areas of Project Cycle Management, Logical Framework Approach, Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Identification, Project Formulation, Appraisal and Project Implementation. Participants will able to design project/programmes that meet the requirements of the major Donors and Development Partners.

Course Methodology

The course uses a mix of interactive techniques, such as brief presentations by consultant and participants, and psychometric assessments. The course also features the use of a number of group exercises and case studies followed by plenary discussions.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the funding trends of major Development Partners
  • Understand project cycle, decision points, key documents and use of the Quality Frame
  • Understand the principles of the Logical Framework Approach
  • Know how  to design a project according to the Logical Framework Approach
  • Identify how to prepare and assess the quality of a Logical Framework Matrix
  • Know how to prepare activity schedules and how to prepare budgets and resources schedules
  • Understand how to assess project implementation arrangements
  • Know how to design a Monitoring and Evaluation System

This programme is aimed at project team members, project administrators, coordinators and project managers as well as other officials who want to understand the key drivers of project management in both governmental and non-government organisations in order to create stakeholder value for the public.
