Overview

Practical sessions form a core component of this course, allowing learners to apply theoretical knowledge in realistic scenarios. Through supervised drills and simulations, learners develop hands-on skills in escort formations, threat response, communication, and emergency procedures. Practicals ensure competency and readiness for real-world close protection operations.

Practical Activities

• Escort Formations and Positioning Drills — Learners practice forming and transitioning between escort formations (diamond, box, V-formation) in various environments, ensuring correct positioning relative to the principal. (8h)
• Route Reconnaissance and Planning Exercise — Learners conduct a route recce, identify potential threats, and develop a detailed escort plan including primary and contingency routes. (8h)
• Crowd Management and Public Interaction Simulation — In a controlled simulation with role-players, learners manage crowds, interact with the public, and apply de-escalation techniques while protecting the principal. (8h)
• Emergency Response and Medical Drills — Learners respond to simulated emergencies (medical, attack) during an escort, applying first aid and executing evacuation procedures. (8h)
• Full-Mission Scenario Simulation — A comprehensive simulated escort mission incorporating multiple threats (ambush, crowd, medical) requiring full team coordination and decision-making. (8h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.
