Day 1: Introduction to Crime and Victimisation Strategy Programmes

• Identify key stakeholders and their roles in the programme.
• Explain the legislative and policy framework guiding these programmes in South Africa.
• Describe the basic components of a crime and victimisation strategy.

• Legislative framework: Criminal Procedure Act, Victim's Charter, and relevant policies
• Roles of SAPS, Community Policing Forums, and NGOs
• Key elements of a strategy programme: prevention, response, and support

Day 2: Data Collection and Analysis for Reporting

Objectives:
• Identify sources of crime and victimisation data.
• Apply data collection methods appropriate for strategy programme reporting.
• Analyse data to identify trends and patterns.
• Ensure data integrity and accuracy.

• Quantitative vs qualitative data sources

Day 3: Designing the Report Structure and Content

• Outline the standard structure of a programme report.
• Develop clear and concise content for each report section.

• Align report content with programme objectives.

• Writing clear and objective findings

Day 4: Reporting on Programme Outcomes and Impact

Objectives:
• Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for the programme.
• Measure and report on programme outcomes.
• Assess the impact of interventions on crime and victimisation.
• Identify challenges and lessons learned.

• Setting and measuring KPIs
• Outcome vs output reporting
• Impact assessment methodologies
• Case studies of successful interventions
• Documenting challenges and recommendations for improvement

Day 5: Legal and Ethical Considerations in Reporting

Objectives:
• Comply with legal requirements for reporting crime and victimisation data.
• Protect victim confidentiality and anonymity.
• Understand the implications of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
• Address ethical dilemmas in reporting.

Day 6: Presenting and Disseminating the Report

Objectives:
• Develop effective presentation skills for reporting results.

• Use various dissemination channels.
• Handle questions and feedback professionally.

• Verbal and non-verbal communication techniques
• Stakeholder-specific briefings (e.g., community, government, funders)

• Managing Q&A sessions and incorporating feedback

Day 7: Practical Application and Integration

Objectives:
• Compile a complete report based on a simulated case study.
• Present findings to a mock stakeholder panel.
• Evaluate the report against SAQA unit standard criteria.
• Reflect on learning and identify areas for further development.

• Group work: developing a report from start to finish
• Mock presentation with peer and facilitator feedback
• Assessment against unit standard outcomes

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
