Course Outline

Day 1: Introduction to Interactive Media Solutions and SAQA Context

Objectives:
• Understand the scope of interactive media solutions within the SAQA framework.
• Identify key stakeholders and their roles in proposal development.
• Define the core components of a proposal for interactive media projects.
• Recognise the importance of aligning proposals with industry standards and regulations.

Topics:
• Overview of interactive media solutions (web, mobile, AR/VR, digital signage).
• SAQA unit standard 117554: purpose, outcomes, and assessment criteria.
• The proposal lifecycle: from opportunity identification to submission.
• Roles and responsibilities: project manager, creative lead, technical lead, business analyst.
• Regulatory and ethical considerations in interactive media proposals.
• Introduction to proposal structure: executive summary, scope, deliverables.

Day 2: Needs Analysis and Problem Definition

Objectives:
• Conduct a thorough needs analysis for interactive media projects.
• Define the problem statement and scope of work.
• Identify target audience and user requirements.
• Apply tools such as stakeholder interviews and surveys to gather data.

Topics:
• Techniques for needs analysis: interviews, questionnaires, observation.
• Defining SMART problem statements.
• User personas and journey mapping.
• Scope management: what to include and exclude.
• Documenting assumptions, constraints, and risks.
• Case study: analysing a real-world interactive media brief.

Day 3: Solution Design and Technical Specifications

Objectives:
• Design creative and technical solutions for interactive media projects.
• Develop detailed technical specifications.
• Evaluate different technology stacks and platforms.
• Create wireframes, storyboards, or prototypes to illustrate the solution.

• Creative concept development: brainstorming and ideation.
• Technical architecture: frontend, backend, database, APIs.
• Platform selection: web, mobile, AR/VR, or multi-channel.
• Prototyping tools: wireframes, mockups, interactive prototypes.
• Accessibility and responsiveness considerations.

Day 4: Budgeting, Pricing, and Resource Planning

• Prepare accurate cost estimates for interactive media projects.
• Develop pricing strategies (fixed price, time & materials, value-based).
• Plan resource allocation: human resources, software, hardware.
• Create a project schedule with milestones and deliverables.

• Cost estimation techniques: bottom-up, analogous, parametric.
• Pricing models and when to use them.
• Resource planning: skill sets, team size, outsourcing.
• Project scheduling: Gantt charts, critical path method.
• Contingency planning and risk budget.
• Tools for budget and resource management.

Day 5: Writing the Proposal Document

Objectives:
• Write a compelling executive summary and project overview.
• Articulate the solution, methodology, and deliverables clearly.
• Include technical appendices and supporting documentation.
• Apply persuasive writing techniques to highlight value proposition.

Topics:
• Structure of a professional proposal: executive summary, company credentials, approach, timeline, budget.
• Writing for different audiences: technical vs. non-technical.
• Visual elements: diagrams, charts, screenshots.
• Including terms and conditions, assumptions, and exclusions.
• Proofreading and editing for clarity and consistency.
• Proposal templates and formatting standards.

Day 6: Review, Quality Assurance, and Submission

Objectives:
• Conduct a thorough review of the proposal against requirements.
• Apply quality assurance checklists to ensure completeness.
• Manage the submission process including deadlines and formats.
• Prepare for oral presentations or pitch meetings.

Topics:
• Review checklist: alignment with RFP, compliance, accuracy.
• Internal review process: peer review, management sign-off.
• Quality assurance: grammar, consistency, branding.
• Submission logistics: electronic portals, hard copies, deadlines.
• Pitch preparation: presentation slides, demos, Q&A.
• Handling addenda and clarifications after submission.

Day 7: Practical Integration, Assessment, and Certification

Objectives:
• Integrate all components into a complete proposal for a real-world scenario.
• Present the proposal and receive constructive feedback.
• Demonstrate competence against SAQA unit standard outcomes.
• Reflect on learning and create a personal action plan for continuous improvement.

Topics:
• Capstone exercise: develop a full proposal from a given brief.
• Peer review and facilitator feedback session.
• Addressing common pitfalls and lessons learned.
• Portfolio of evidence requirements for SAQA certification.
• Final assessment: oral presentation and Q&A.
• Action planning: applying skills in the workplace.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
