Course Outline

Practicals

Overview

Hands-on practical sessions form a critical part of this course, allowing learners to apply vision control theory in a realistic studio environment. Learners will operate broadcast cameras, shading units, and monitoring equipment under instructor guidance, culminating in a live multi-camera production exercise.

Practical Activities

• Camera Setup and Alignment — Learners set up a broadcast camera chain, perform white and black balance, adjust iris and gain, and align the camera using test charts. (6h)
• Colour Matching and Grading — Using a multi-camera setup, learners match colour and luminance across cameras and apply creative colour grading using waveform monitors and vectorscopes. (6h)
• Advanced Vision Control and Troubleshooting — Learners implement LUTs, manage HDR settings, and troubleshoot common vision issues such as colour casts, flicker, and noise. (4h)
• Live Multi-Camera Production — In a simulated live broadcast, learners operate vision control for a multi-camera production, adjusting settings in real-time to maintain consistent quality. (4h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.
