Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of Personal Development for Effective Service Delivery

Objectives:
• Understand the role of personal development in enhancing service delivery within probation work.
• Identify key personal development strategies and skills relevant to the probation context.
• Apply self-assessment tools to evaluate current competencies and areas for growth.
• Develop a personal development plan aligned with organisational goals and service standards.

Topics:
• Introduction to personal development and its importance in probation work.
• Overview of the unit standard 120280 and learning outcomes.
• Self-awareness and emotional intelligence as foundations for effective service delivery.
• Identifying personal strengths, weaknesses, and development needs.
• Goal setting: SMART goals for professional growth.
• Creating a personal development plan (PDP) with actionable steps.
• Time management and prioritisation skills for probation officers.
• Reflection on day’s learning and preparation for Day 2.

Day 2: Advanced Application and Integration of Personal Development Strategies

Objectives:
• Apply advanced communication and interpersonal skills to enhance client engagement.
• Demonstrate resilience and stress management techniques in challenging probation scenarios.
• Evaluate the impact of personal development on service delivery outcomes.
• Integrate continuous learning and reflective practice into daily probation work.

• Advanced communication strategies: active listening, empathy, and assertiveness.
• Managing conflict and difficult conversations with clients and stakeholders.
• Resilience building: coping with vicarious trauma and work-related stress.
• Reflective practice: using journals and feedback for continuous improvement.
• Case studies: applying personal development strategies to real probation situations.
• Evaluating personal development plans: measuring progress and adapting goals.
• Peer coaching and support networks for ongoing development.
• Final assessment and action planning for sustained application.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
