Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of Business Relationships and Inspection Processes

Objectives:
• Understand the importance of maintaining business relationships in inspection and assessment contexts.
• Identify key stakeholders involved in inspection and assessment processes.
• Explain the regulatory framework and ethical considerations for inspections in South Africa.
• Describe the basic steps of an inspection and assessment process.

• Stakeholder mapping: clients, regulators, assessors, and third parties.
• SAQA and relevant legislation: Skills Development Act, Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) requirements.
• Ethical conduct: confidentiality, impartiality, and conflict of interest.
• Introduction to inspection and assessment lifecycle: planning, execution, reporting, and follow-up.

Day 2: Communication and Conflict Resolution Strategies

Objectives:
• Apply effective verbal and written communication techniques during inspections.
• Manage difficult conversations and resolve conflicts constructively.
• Use active listening and questioning skills to gather accurate information.
• Document interactions and maintain professional records.

• Communication models: sender-receiver, feedback loops, and barriers.

Day 3: Conducting Inspections and Assessments with Relationship Focus

• Plan and prepare for inspections while maintaining stakeholder rapport.
• Execute inspection protocols without damaging business relationships.
• Use observation and evidence-gathering techniques respectfully.
• Provide constructive feedback during and after assessments.

• Pre-inspection planning: scheduling, scope, and stakeholder briefings.
• On-site conduct: professionalism, respect for operations, and transparency.
• Evidence collection: documentation, photographs, and interviews.
• Feedback delivery: sandwich method, specific examples, and action plans.
• Handling non-compliance: coaching vs. punitive approaches.
• Real-world case studies of successful relationship maintenance.

Day 4: Reporting, Follow-Up, and Continuous Improvement

Objectives:
• Compile clear, accurate, and relationship-sensitive inspection reports.
• Manage post-inspection follow-up actions and corrective measures.
• Use feedback loops to strengthen business partnerships.
• Implement continuous improvement strategies based on assessment findings.

Day 5: Integration, Assessment, and Action Planning

• Synthesize all learning into a coherent relationship management approach.
• Demonstrate competence through a simulated inspection and assessment scenario.
• Create a personal action plan for applying skills in the workplace.
• Evaluate the impact of strong relationships on inspection outcomes.

• Integrated scenario: full inspection cycle with relationship challenges.
• Role-play and peer feedback: handling pressure and maintaining professionalism.
• Review of unit standard outcomes: evidence of competence.
• Personal action plan: goals, resources, and timelines.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
