Day 1: Introduction to Textile Wet Processes and Machinery

Objectives:

• Types of machinery: jiggers, winches, jet dyeing machines, pad-steam ranges.
• Role of maintenance in equipment reliability and product quality.
• Safety protocols in maintenance operations.
• Introduction to maintenance planning and documentation.

Day 2: Fundamentals of Mechanical Maintenance

Objectives:
• Explain basic mechanical principles relevant to textile machinery.
• Identify common mechanical components and their functions.
• Apply safe use of hand tools and measuring instruments.

Topics:
• Mechanical power transmission: belts, chains, gears, couplings.
• Bearings: types, selection, and lubrication.
• Fasteners and thread standards.
• Use of torque wrenches, callipers, micrometers.
• Lockout/tagout procedures.
• Housekeeping and tool maintenance.

Day 3: Electrical Fundamentals for Textile Machinery

Objectives:
• Describe basic electrical principles (voltage, current, resistance).
• Identify electrical components in wet processing machines.
• Apply electrical safety practices.

• AC/DC circuits and measurements.
• Motors: types (AC induction, DC), starters, variable frequency drives.

Day 4: Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems in Wet Processing

• Perform basic maintenance on hydraulic/pneumatic circuits.

• Hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, filters.
• Pneumatic compressors, FRL units, actuators.
• Reading fluid power diagrams.
• Oil and air contamination control.
• Troubleshooting leaks and pressure drops.
• Safety in hydraulic/pneumatic maintenance.

Day 5: Pre-treatment Machinery Maintenance

Objectives:
• Describe pre-treatment processes and associated machinery.
• Perform routine maintenance on singeing, desizing, scouring, bleaching equipment.
• Identify common faults and their remedies.

Topics:
• Singeing machines: burners, brushes, cooling rollers.
• Desizing ranges: padders, J-boxes, washing compartments.
• Scouring and bleaching: kier, J-box, roller bed steamer.
• Maintenance of padders: nip pressure, roller alignment.
• Cleaning of J-boxes and washing chambers.
• Lubrication of chain drives and bearings.

Day 6: Dyeing Machinery Maintenance – Part 1

Objectives:
• Understand different dyeing machine types.
• Perform maintenance on winch and jigger dyeing machines.
• Diagnose common mechanical issues.

• Winch dyeing machine: drive system, reel, liquor circulation.
• Jigger: tension control, roller alignment, braking system.
• Maintenance of seals and gaskets.
• Cleaning of dyeing vessels.
• Inspection of heating coils and temperature sensors.
• Troubleshooting uneven dyeing due to mechanical faults.

Day 7: Dyeing Machinery Maintenance – Part 2

Objectives:
• Maintain high-temperature jet dyeing machines.
• Understand soft-flow and overflow systems.
• Implement preventive maintenance schedules.

• Jet dyeing machines: nozzle, heat exchanger, circulation pump.
• Soft-flow dyeing: fabric transport, liquor ratio control.
• Maintenance of pumps and valves.
• Cleaning of heat exchangers and filters.

Day 8: Printing Machinery Maintenance

Day 18: Quality and Continuous Improvement

• Relate maintenance to product quality.

• Impact of maintenance on quality: roller marks, stains.
• Lean maintenance: TPM, OEE.

Day 19: Practical Workshop – Simulated Maintenance

• Complete a maintenance work order from start to finish.

Day 20: Assessment and Course Review

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
