IT Solution Implementation Options Investigation Training

SAQA US 258838 | NQF 5 | Credits 6 | Duration 3 Days
From $713 per delegate

Description

This course equips IT professionals and decision-makers with the skills to systematically investigate and evaluate implementation options for IT solutions. Learners will analyse business requirements, assess technical feasibility, and compare deployment models (on-premise, cloud, hybrid) to recommend the most suitable approach. The focus is on aligning IT investments with organisational strategy and regulatory compliance.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyse business requirements and constraints to define IT solution implementation criteria.
  • Evaluate different implementation options (e.g., in-house development, packaged software, cloud services) against technical, financial, and operational factors.
  • Assess risks, benefits, and compliance implications for each implementation option.
  • Design a high-level implementation plan including timeline, resources, and change management considerations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to present a justified recommendation for the preferred implementation approach.

Target Audience

IT managers, solution architects, business analysts, and systems integrators responsible for selecting and implementing IT solutions within their organisations.

Prerequisites

None — open enrollment.

Course Outline

Day 1: Understanding IT Solution Implementation Options

Objectives:
• Explain the concept of IT solution implementation and its importance in business.
• Identify various types of IT solutions (e.g., bespoke, off-the-shelf, cloud-based).
• Describe the key phases of the implementation lifecycle.
• Analyse factors influencing the choice of implementation approach.
• Differentiate between implementation methodologies (e.g., waterfall, agile, hybrid).

Topics:
• Introduction to IT solution implementation.
• Types of IT solutions: custom development, COTS, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS.
• Implementation lifecycle: planning, design, deployment, testing, maintenance.
• Factors affecting implementation: cost, time, resources, risk, organisational readiness.
• Overview of implementation methodologies: waterfall, agile, iterative, DevOps.
• Case studies of different implementation approaches.
• Group discussion: Pros and cons of each approach.
• Introduction to feasibility studies and business case development.

Day 2: Investigating and Evaluating Implementation Options

Objectives:
• Conduct a structured investigation to gather requirements for IT solutions.
• Evaluate different implementation options against defined criteria.
• Assess risks, costs, and benefits associated with each option.
• Apply decision-making frameworks to select the most suitable option.
• Prepare a recommendation report for stakeholders.

Topics:
• Requirements gathering techniques: interviews, surveys, document analysis.
• Evaluation criteria: functionality, scalability, security, vendor support, total cost of ownership.
• Risk assessment: identifying, analysing, and mitigating implementation risks.
• Cost-benefit analysis and ROI calculation.
• Decision-making frameworks: weighted scoring, SWOT analysis, feasibility analysis.
• Stakeholder communication and reporting.
• Practical exercise: Evaluate two IT solutions for a given scenario.
• Group work: Develop a recommendation report.

Day 3: Planning and Presenting the Implementation Strategy

Objectives:
• Develop a detailed implementation plan including timelines, resources, and milestones.
• Create a risk management and contingency plan.
• Prepare a professional presentation to communicate the chosen option.
• Demonstrate the ability to justify the implementation decision.
• Review and refine the plan based on feedback.

Topics:
• Components of an implementation plan: scope, schedule, budget, resources.
• Project management tools: Gantt charts, work breakdown structure.
• Risk management plan: risk register, mitigation strategies, contingency plans.
• Communication plan for stakeholders.
• Presentation skills: structuring a persuasive argument.
• Mock presentation and peer feedback.
• Finalising the investigation report.
• Course review and Q&A.

Practicals

8 hours of practicals To be conducted online or on-campus or in-house
Overview

Learners apply theoretical knowledge through practical exercises including evaluating IT solutions for a case study, developing an implementation plan, and presenting their recommendation. These hands-on activities reinforce decision-making, planning, and communication skills essential for implementing IT solutions.

Practical Activities
  • Practical 1: Requirements Gathering and Solution Evaluation — Learners work in groups to gather requirements from a case study and evaluate two IT solutions using a weighted scoring matrix. (3h)
  • Practical 2: Implementation Planning — Using the selected solution, learners create a detailed implementation plan including Gantt chart, risk register, and resource allocation. (3h)
  • Practical 3: Presentation and Defense — Each group presents their implementation recommendation to the class, followed by Q&A and peer evaluation. (2h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.

Final Total
Component Out of Weight
Practical Assignments (rubric-scored) 100% 30%
Daily Average (multiple choice) 100% 20%
Final Test (multi-answer multiple choice) 100% 50%
Final Total 100%

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Practicals 30% + Daily Average 20% + Final Test 50%).

How it works
  • Certificates are auto-generated on the AATICD LMS as soon as the marks pass the 50% threshold.
  • Each certificate is a branded PDF with the delegate's name, the course title, the unit standard ID, NQF level, credits, and the date of issue.
  • You can download or print your certificate from your LMS dashboard at any time after issue — there's no reissue fee and no expiry date.
  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
Where to find it

Sign in to the LMS, open your dashboard, and your certificates appear under My Certificates. Each entry has a View / Download button and a print option.
