This course equips learners with the practical skills to create, edit, and manage spreadsheets for business purposes. Learners will be able to perform calculations, format data, and generate reports using spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel. The course focuses on applying spreadsheet functions to solve real-world business problems and improve data management efficiency.
This course is designed for administrative staff, data capturers, managers, and any professionals who need to use spreadsheets as part of their daily work. It is suitable for beginners or those seeking to formalize their spreadsheet skills.

Objectives:
• Navigate the Excel interface and manage workbooks efficiently
• Enter, edit, and format data using basic and custom formats
• Create and apply formulas and functions for common business calculations
• Generate and customise charts to present data visually
• Prepare and print spreadsheets professionally
Topics:
• Understanding the Excel environment: ribbons, tabs, and shortcuts
• Data entry, editing, and basic formatting (fonts, alignment, borders, number formats)
• Cell references (relative, absolute, mixed) and essential functions (SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, MIN)
• Sorting and filtering data
• Creating and formatting charts (column, bar, line, pie)
• Page setup, headers/footers, and printing options
Hands-on practicals reinforce theoretical concepts through guided exercises. Learners build a business spreadsheet from scratch, apply formatting and formulas, create charts, and prepare the workbook for printing.
Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.
Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.
Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.
On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.
