Description

This programme equips church leaders and ministry workers with the biblical, theological, and practical foundations for establishing and sustaining a healing ministry. Participants will develop the skills to minister effectively to the sick, conduct healing services, and integrate pastoral care with spiritual gifts.

Day 1: Foundations of Healing Ministry

• Define key terms and concepts in healing ministry.

• Biblical foundations: Old and New Testament perspectives on healing.
• The theology of suffering and healing.
• The person and work of the Holy Spirit in healing.
• Historical overview of healing in the church.
• Faith, prayer, and the role of the community.
• Key terms: divine healing, inner healing, deliverance, and wholeness.
• Ethical considerations in healing ministry.
• Introduction to the unit standard outcomes.

Day 2: The Healer's Character and Spiritual Formation

Objectives:
• Examine the character qualities required for healing ministry.
• Develop personal spiritual disciplines for effective ministry.
• Understand the importance of humility, compassion, and integrity.
• Identify personal strengths and areas for growth.
• Learn to maintain spiritual health and avoid burnout.

• The character of a healer: biblical examples (Jesus, apostles).
• Spiritual disciplines: prayer, fasting, Bible study, and meditation.
• The fruit of the Spirit in healing ministry.
• Humility and servanthood in healing.
• Compassion and empathy for the suffering.

Day 3: Understanding Sickness and Disease

Objectives:
• Differentiate between physical, emotional, and spiritual causes of illness.
• Understand the mind-body-spirit connection in health.
• Identify common misconceptions about sickness and healing.
• Learn to discern root causes of illness.
• Appreciate the role of medical science alongside spiritual ministry.

Topics:
• Biblical perspectives on sickness: sin, demonic oppression, natural causes.
• The holistic nature of health: physical, emotional, relational, spiritual.
• Common misconceptions: sickness as punishment, lack of faith.
• Discernment of root causes: generational patterns, trauma, lifestyle.
• The role of medicine and healthcare professionals.
• Psychosomatic illness and the power of belief.
• Case studies: different types of sickness.
• Ethical boundaries: when to refer to medical practitioners.

Day 4: Prayer Ministry for Healing

Objectives:
• Learn various models of healing prayer.
• Develop skills in listening prayer and discernment.
• Practice praying effectively for physical healing.
• Understand the role of anointing and laying on of hands.
• Integrate Scripture and prophecy in prayer.

Topics:
• Models of healing prayer: intercessory, command, and listening prayer.
• The gift of discernment in healing prayer.
• Laying on of hands: biblical practice and practical application.
• Anointing with oil: significance and use.
• Praying with authority and faith.
• Using Scripture in healing prayer.

Day 5: Inner Healing and Emotional Wholeness

• Understand the concept of inner healing.
• Identify emotional wounds and their impact.
• Learn techniques for ministering inner healing.
• Facilitate forgiveness and reconciliation.
• Promote emotional wholeness and resilience.

Topics:
• What is inner healing? Biblical basis and examples.
• Types of emotional wounds: rejection, abuse, loss, trauma.
• The impact of unforgiveness and bitterness.
• Steps for inner healing prayer: identifying lies, renouncing, receiving truth.
• Facilitating forgiveness: from and towards others, self, God.
• Healing memories and the power of the Holy Spirit.
• Building emotional resilience and healthy boundaries.
• Role-play and practice sessions.

Day 6: Deliverance Ministry

Objectives:
• Understand biblical teaching on demonic influence.
• Differentiate between oppression, obsession, and possession.
• Learn principles for conducting deliverance ministry.
• Practice discernment and authority in deliverance.
• Ensure safety and ethical guidelines in deliverance.

Topics:
• Biblical basis for deliverance: Jesus' ministry, early church.
• Levels of demonic influence: oppression, obsession, possession.
• Discernment of spirits and spiritual gifts.
• Steps for deliverance: preparation, prayer, command, follow-up.
• Authority of the believer in deliverance.
• Common strongholds and how to break them.
• Ethical considerations: consent, confidentiality, referral.
• Practical demonstration and supervised practice.

Day 7: Healing in Community and Church Context

Objectives:
• Understand the role of the church community in healing.
• Develop strategies for integrating healing ministry into church life.
• Learn to establish healing teams and protocols.
• Address barriers to healing in congregational settings.
• Foster a culture of healing and wholeness.

Topics:
• The church as a healing community: Acts 2:42-47.
• Models of healing ministry in local churches.
• Establishing a healing team: selection, training, oversight.
• Protocols for healing services and prayer rooms.
• Overcoming obstacles: unbelief, tradition, fear.
• Pastoral care and follow-up for the healed and unhealed.
• Testimonies and celebrating healings.
• Case studies of successful church healing ministries.

Day 8: Advanced Topics and Specialised Healing

Objectives:
• Explore specialised areas of healing ministry.
• Understand healing for children, the elderly, and marginalised groups.
• Learn about healing in trauma and disaster contexts.
• Address chronic illness and long-term suffering.
• Integrate healing with social justice and community care.

Topics:
• Healing for children: approaches and considerations.
• Ministry to the elderly and those with dementia.
• Healing in trauma and post-disaster settings.
• Chronic illness: ministering hope and support.
• Healing and mental health: depression, anxiety, PTSD.
• Healing and social justice: poverty, oppression, systemic sin.
• Cross-cultural healing ministry.
• Collaboration with professional counsellors and social workers.

Day 9: Integration, Ethics, and Ongoing Development

Objectives:
• Synthesise learning from the programme.
• Develop a personal ministry plan and code of ethics.
• Understand legal and ethical responsibilities.
• Plan for ongoing education and accountability.
• Prepare for assessment and certification.

Topics:
• Review and integration of key concepts.
• Developing a personal healing ministry plan.
• Code of ethics for healing ministry: boundaries, confidentiality, referral.
• Legal considerations: liability, consent, reporting.
• Working with other ministers and healthcare professionals.
• Ongoing training and supervision.
• Assessment preparation: portfolio of evidence.
• Commissioning and closing ceremony.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
