From $691 per delegate

Description

This course equips retirement fund professionals with the skills to investigate and evaluate various funding options available to members exiting a group retirement fund. It covers regulatory requirements, financial implications, and decision-making frameworks to ensure compliant and optimal outcomes for exiting members.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyse the regulatory framework governing group retirement fund exits in South Africa.
  • Evaluate different funding options (e.g., preservation funds, transfers, cash withdrawals) for exiting members.
  • Apply appropriate criteria to recommend suitable funding options based on member circumstances.
  • Assess the financial and tax implications of each funding option for the exiting member.
  • Demonstrate compliance with relevant legislation and fund rules during the exit process.
  • Implement a structured process to investigate and document funding options for group retirement fund exits.

Target Audience

Targeted at retirement fund administrators, consultants, financial advisors, and human resource professionals involved in managing group retirement fund exits.

Prerequisites

None — open enrollment. However, a basic understanding of retirement funds is recommended.

Course Outline

Day 1: Exit Funding Options for Group Retirement Funds

Objectives:
• Understand the regulatory framework governing exit funding from group retirement funds.
• Identify and compare different exit funding options available to members.
• Evaluate the tax implications and compliance requirements for each exit option.
• Apply the principles to real-world scenarios and member consultations.
• Demonstrate the ability to advise members on suitable exit strategies.

Topics:
• Overview of group retirement funds and regulatory context (Pension Funds Act, Income Tax Act).
• Withdrawal benefits: lump sum payments, preservation funds, and transfer to another fund.
• Retirement options: living annuities, guaranteed life annuities, and phased withdrawal.
• Death and disability benefits: exit funding considerations for beneficiaries.
• Tax treatment of lump sums and annuity income.
• Compliance and documentation: forms, timelines, and member communication.
• Case studies: comparing exit options under different member profiles.
• Practical considerations: advice processes, risk assessment, and member education.

Practicals

3 hours of practicals To be conducted online or on-campus or in-house
Overview

Learners apply theoretical knowledge through case-based calculations and role-play exercises. They practice advising members on exit options, completing relevant forms, and calculating tax implications. These practicals ensure competency in real-world advisory scenarios.

Practical Activities
  • Exit Option Calculation Exercise — Learners calculate lump sum and annuity payouts for given member profiles, considering tax thresholds and preservation rules. (1h)
  • Compliance Documentation Role-Play — In pairs, learners simulate a member consultation, completing withdrawal/transfer forms and explaining tax implications. (1h)
  • Case Study Analysis and Presentation — Groups analyse a complex member scenario (e.g., early retirement with disability) and present their recommended exit funding solution. (1h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.

Final Total
Component Out of Weight
Practical Assignments (rubric-scored) 100% 30%
Daily Average (multiple choice) 100% 20%
Final Test (multi-answer multiple choice) 100% 50%
Final Total 100%

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Practicals 30% + Daily Average 20% + Final Test 50%).

How it works
  • Certificates are auto-generated on the AATICD LMS as soon as the marks pass the 50% threshold.
  • Each certificate is a branded PDF with the delegate's name, the course title, the unit standard ID, NQF level, credits, and the date of issue.
  • You can download or print your certificate from your LMS dashboard at any time after issue — there's no reissue fee and no expiry date.
  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
Where to find it

Sign in to the LMS, open your dashboard, and your certificates appear under My Certificates. Each entry has a View / Download button and a print option.
