Comparative Behaviour Analysis for Job Decisions Training

SAQA US 259942 | NQF 5 | Credits 8 | Duration 5 Days
From $1,242 per delegate

Description

This course equips learners with the skills to systematically compare behavioural patterns in the workplace and use these insights to make informed job-related decisions. Participants will learn to identify, analyse, and apply behavioural data to enhance recruitment, team dynamics, and employee development.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyse behavioural indicators to distinguish between different work-related behaviours.
  • Apply comparative behaviour analysis techniques to evaluate candidates for job roles.
  • Evaluate the impact of behavioural differences on team performance and workplace relationships.
  • Design interventions based on behavioural comparisons to improve job fit and employee satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use behavioural data to support objective job-related decisions.
  • Implement strategies for integrating behavioural analysis into recruitment and performance management processes.

Target Audience

This course is designed for HR practitioners, line managers, team leaders, and anyone involved in hiring, performance evaluation, or career development decisions within an organisation.

Prerequisites

None — open enrollment.

Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of Comparative Behaviour Analysis

Objectives:
• Understand the purpose and scope of comparative behaviour analysis in job decisions
• Identify key theoretical frameworks for comparing animal and human behaviour
• Recognise ethical considerations in behaviour observation and analysis
• Distinguish between innate and learned behaviours
• Explain the relevance of comparative analysis to workplace contexts

Topics:
• Introduction to comparative behaviour analysis
• Historical perspectives and key theorists (e.g., Lorenz, Tinbergen, Skinner)
• Innate vs. learned behaviours: examples and implications
• Ethical guidelines for observing and analysing behaviour
• Overview of job decision applications: selection, training, and performance

Day 2: Behavioural Observation and Data Collection Methods

Objectives:
• Describe systematic observation techniques for behaviour recording
• Design a simple ethogram for a specific job-related behaviour
• Apply sampling methods (e.g., focal, scan, instantaneous) in practical contexts
• Ensure inter-observer reliability and validity
• Analyse basic behavioural data using frequency and duration measures

Topics:
• Observation methods: continuous vs. time sampling
• Developing ethograms and coding schemes
• Data collection tools: checklists, timers, video recording
• Reliability and validity in behavioural measurement
• Introduction to data analysis: frequencies, durations, and sequences

Day 3: Comparative Analysis Frameworks for Job Performance

Objectives:
• Compare behaviour patterns across species relevant to work tasks
• Apply functional analysis to identify antecedents and consequences
• Use behavioural taxonomy to categorise job-related behaviours
• Evaluate the impact of environmental factors on behaviour
• Interpret results to inform job design and training needs

Topics:
• Cross-species comparisons: primates, canines, and humans
• Functional behaviour assessment (ABC model)
• Behavioural taxonomies for job analysis (e.g., O*NET, PAQ)
• Environmental enrichment and its analogues in the workplace
• Case studies: applying comparative analysis to real job scenarios

Day 4: Advanced Applications and Decision-Making

Objectives:
• Use comparative data to predict job performance and fit
• Develop behavioural criteria for candidate selection
• Design training interventions based on behavioural principles
• Apply statistical methods to compare behaviour datasets
• Critically evaluate the limitations of comparative analysis

Topics:
• Predictive validity of behavioural markers
• Behavioural interviewing and assessment centres
• Training design: shaping, chaining, and reinforcement schedules
• Statistical comparison: t-tests, chi-square, and effect sizes
• Ethical and practical limitations in applying animal models to humans

Day 5: Integration, Reporting, and Practical Application

Objectives:
• Synthesise comparative analysis findings into actionable job decisions
• Write a professional report with behavioural recommendations
• Present findings to stakeholders using clear visualisations
• Develop a personal action plan for ongoing behaviour analysis
• Evaluate the course outcomes and reflect on learning

Topics:
• Report writing: structure, language, and visuals
• Stakeholder communication strategies
• Action planning for behaviour analysis in the workplace
• Peer review of case study analyses
• Course wrap-up and evaluation

Practicals

15 hours of practicals To be conducted online or on-campus or in-house
Overview

Practicals provide hands-on experience in systematic observation, data collection, and comparative analysis. Learners will practise using ethograms, video recording, and statistical tools to analyse behaviour and make evidence-based job decisions.

Practical Activities
  • Ethogram Development and Observation — Learners develop an ethogram for a specific job-related behaviour (e.g., customer service interactions) and conduct live or video-recorded observations. (4h)
  • Functional Analysis of Workplace Behaviours — Using video scenarios, learners apply the ABC model to identify antecedents, behaviours, and consequences in job performance contexts. (4h)
  • Comparative Data Analysis and Decision-Making — Learners analyse provided behaviour datasets from human and animal studies (e.g., vigilance in security dogs vs. human guards) using statistical software. (4h)
  • Behavioural Assessment Simulation — In a simulated selection scenario, learners design and conduct a behaviour-based assessment (e.g., role-play or task simulation) and evaluate candidates. (3h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.

Final Total
Component Out of Weight
Practical Assignments (rubric-scored) 100% 30%
Daily Average (multiple choice) 100% 20%
Final Test (multi-answer multiple choice) 100% 50%
Final Total 100%

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Practicals 30% + Daily Average 20% + Final Test 50%).

How it works
  • Certificates are auto-generated on the AATICD LMS as soon as the marks pass the 50% threshold.
  • Each certificate is a branded PDF with the delegate's name, the course title, the unit standard ID, NQF level, credits, and the date of issue.
  • You can download or print your certificate from your LMS dashboard at any time after issue — there's no reissue fee and no expiry date.
  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
Where to find it

Sign in to the LMS, open your dashboard, and your certificates appear under My Certificates. Each entry has a View / Download button and a print option.
