Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of Change Management

Objectives:
• Define change management and its importance in the workplace
• Understand the key principles and theories of change management
• Identify the role of a change agent
• Recognise the impact of change on individuals and organisations

Topics:
• Introduction to change management
• Key principles: communication, leadership, stakeholder engagement
• Overview of change management models (Kotter, ADKAR)
• The change curve and emotional responses
• Role and characteristics of a change agent
• Benefits of effective change management

Day 2: Understanding Organisational Change

Objectives:
• Differentiate between types of organisational change
• Analyse the drivers and triggers of change
• Understand organisational culture and its influence on change
• Assess readiness for change within an organisation

Topics:
• Types of change: developmental, transitional, transformational
• Internal and external drivers of change
• Organisational culture and change readiness
• Tools for assessing change readiness
• Case studies: successful and failed change initiatives
• Barriers to change: resistance, lack of resources

Day 3: Stakeholder Analysis and Engagement

Objectives:
• Identify key stakeholders in a change process
• Conduct a stakeholder analysis
• Develop strategies for effective stakeholder engagement
• Manage stakeholder expectations and concerns

Topics:
• Stakeholder identification and mapping
• Stakeholder analysis matrix (power/interest grid)
• Communication strategies for different stakeholder groups
• Building trust and buy-in
• Handling difficult stakeholders
• Practical exercise: stakeholder engagement plan

Day 4: Communication and Change

Objectives:
• Understand the role of communication in change management
• Develop a change communication plan
• Use appropriate communication channels and techniques
• Address rumours and misinformation effectively

• Principles of effective change communication
• Components of a communication plan: audience, message, channel, timing
• Tailoring messages for different audiences
• Two-way communication: feedback mechanisms
• Overcoming communication barriers
• Role-play: communicating change to teams

Day 5: Managing Resistance to Change

Objectives:
• Identify common sources of resistance to change
• Apply strategies to manage and reduce resistance
• Foster a culture of resilience and adaptability
• Support individuals through the transition

• Understanding resistance: psychological and organisational factors
• Strategies to address resistance: education, participation, support
• Building resilience in teams
• Coaching and mentoring during change
• Dealing with conflict arising from change
• Case study analysis: overcoming resistance

Day 6: Implementing and Sustaining Change

Objectives:
• Develop a change implementation plan
• Monitor and evaluate change progress
• Embed change into organisational culture
• Celebrate successes and learn from failures

• Steps in implementing change: planning, piloting, rolling out
• Metrics and KPIs for change success
• Continuous improvement and feedback loops
• Reinforcing change through rewards and recognition
• Sustaining change: avoiding backsliding
• Lessons learned and knowledge management

Day 7: Integration and Practical Application

Objectives:
• Synthesise all change management principles learned
• Apply tools and techniques to a real-world scenario
• Present a comprehensive change management plan
• Reflect on personal development as a change agent

• Group project: develop a change management plan for a given scenario
• Peer review and feedback
• Presentation of change plans
• Role of the change agent in the South African context

Practicals

No practicals for this training.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).

  • Each certificate is a branded PDF with the delegate's name, the course title, the unit standard ID, NQF level, credits, and the date of issue.
  • You can download or print your certificate from your LMS dashboard at any time after issue — there's no reissue fee and no expiry date.
  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
