Description

This course equips learners with the skills to develop an integrated project management plan for simple to moderately complex projects. Participants will learn to coordinate scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and communication into a cohesive plan, ensuring project alignment with organisational objectives.

  • Identify and document project stakeholders, scope, objectives, and deliverables to establish a clear project foundation.
  • Develop an integrated project schedule and budget using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Analyse project risks and develop response strategies to mitigate potential impacts.
  • Design a quality management plan that defines quality standards, metrics, and control measures.
  • Implement a communication plan that ensures timely and effective information flow among stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the integrated plan against project constraints and organisational strategy for alignment.

Target Audience

Project managers, team leaders, and professionals who are responsible for planning and executing projects of low to moderate complexity, particularly within corporate or public sector environments in South Africa.

Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of Project Management and Integrated Planning

Objectives:
• Understand the purpose and scope of integrated project management.
• Identify key project management processes and knowledge areas.
• Explain the importance of integration in project planning.
• Differentiate between project, programme, and portfolio management.
• Recognise the role of the project manager in integration.

Topics:
• Introduction to project management and the project life cycle
• Overview of PMBOK Guide processes and knowledge areas
• Concept of integration management and its benefits
• Project, programme, and portfolio distinctions
• Roles and responsibilities of the integrated project manager

Day 2: Developing the Project Charter and Stakeholder Management

Objectives:
• Develop a project charter with key elements.
• Identify and analyse stakeholders using a power/interest grid.
• Create a stakeholder engagement plan.
• Understand the relationship between charter and integration.
• Apply techniques for documenting project assumptions and constraints.

• Elements of a project charter: scope, objectives, high-level risks
• Stakeholder identification and analysis methods
• Power/interest grid and stakeholder mapping
• Developing a stakeholder engagement plan
• Documenting assumptions, constraints, and success criteria

Day 3: Scope, Schedule, and Cost Baseline Integration

Objectives:
• Create a work breakdown structure (WBS) and scope statement.
• Develop a project schedule using network diagrams and critical path.
• Estimate costs and create a cost baseline.
• Integrate scope, schedule, and cost into a performance measurement baseline.
• Understand the role of the integrated baseline in control.

• Scope definition and WBS creation
• Activity sequencing and network diagramming
• Critical path method and schedule development
• Cost estimating techniques and budgeting
• Establishing the integrated baseline (scope, schedule, cost)

Day 4: Quality, Risk, and Resource Integration

Objectives:
• Develop a quality management plan aligned with project objectives.
• Identify and analyse project risks using qualitative and quantitative methods.
• Plan risk responses and integrate them into the overall plan.
• Plan resource requirements and develop a resource management plan.
• Ensure alignment of quality, risk, and resource plans with baseline.

Topics:
• Quality planning: metrics, checklists, and process improvements
• Risk identification, qualitative and quantitative analysis
• Risk response planning (avoid, mitigate, transfer, accept)
• Resource estimation and resource management plan
• Integrating quality, risk, and resource plans with the baseline

Day 5: Communication, Procurement, and Finalising the Integrated Plan

Objectives:
• Develop a communication management plan.
• Plan procurement and contract management activities.
• Assemble all subsidiary plans into a comprehensive integrated project management plan (IPMP).
• Conduct a plan review and obtain approval.
• Understand change control and configuration management in the IPMP.

• Communication planning: matrix, methods, and frequency
• Procurement planning: make-or-buy analysis and contract types
• Assembling the integrated project management plan
• Plan review, validation, and approval process
• Change control system and configuration management

Practicals

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).

  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
