People And Design Interaction Assessment And Analysis Training

SAQA US 115151 | NQF 6 | Credits 10 | Duration 7 Days
From $1,118 per delegate

Description

This course equips participants with the skills to assess and analyze the interaction between people and design in various contexts. It focuses on understanding user needs, evaluating design effectiveness, and applying principles of human-computer interaction to improve product usability and user experience.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply principles of human-computer interaction to evaluate design interfaces.
  • Analyze user behavior and feedback to identify design strengths and weaknesses.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of design solutions in meeting user needs.
  • Design assessment criteria and methods for measuring interaction quality.
  • Implement analysis techniques to derive actionable insights from user data.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recommend design improvements based on assessment findings.

Target Audience

This course is ideal for UX researchers, designers, product managers, and anyone involved in the design and evaluation of interactive systems who needs to assess how people interact with designs.

Prerequisites

None — open enrollment.

Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of People-Design Interaction

Objectives:
• Understand the core concepts of human-centred design and interaction design. • Identify the historical evolution and key theories in people-design interaction. • Recognise the importance of usability, user experience (UX), and accessibility in design. • Define the scope and purpose of interaction assessment and analysis.

Topics:
• Introduction to people-design interaction: definitions and scope. • Historical context and evolution of human-computer interaction (HCI). • Key theories: affordances, signifiers, mental models, and feedback. • Overview of usability, UX, and accessibility principles. • The role of assessment and analysis in design improvement.

Day 2: User Research Methods and Data Collection

Objectives:
• Differentiate between qualitative and quantitative user research methods. • Apply techniques such as interviews, surveys, and observational studies. • Plan and conduct basic user research sessions. • Collect and document user data ethically and systematically.

Topics:
• Qualitative methods: interviews, focus groups, contextual inquiry. • Quantitative methods: surveys, analytics, A/B testing. • Observational techniques and diary studies. • Ethical considerations in user research (informed consent, privacy). • Data collection tools and documentation practices.

Day 3: Analysing User Behaviour and Needs

Objectives:
• Analyse collected user data to identify patterns and insights. • Create user personas and empathy maps to represent user groups. • Map user journeys and identify pain points. • Prioritise user needs using affinity diagrams and thematic analysis.

Topics:
• Data analysis techniques: thematic analysis, coding, and pattern recognition. • Developing user personas: demographics, goals, and behaviours. • Empathy mapping to understand user emotions and motivations. • User journey mapping: touchpoints, channels, and moments of truth. • Affinity diagramming and prioritisation frameworks.

Day 4: Evaluating Usability and Accessibility

Objectives:
• Conduct heuristic evaluations and expert reviews. • Perform usability testing with representative users. • Apply accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) to evaluate designs. • Document and report usability issues with severity ratings.

Topics:
• Heuristic evaluation: Nielsen’s heuristics and how to apply them. • Usability testing: planning, moderating, and observing sessions. • Accessibility evaluation: WCAG principles (perceivable, operable, understandable, robust). • Assistive technologies and inclusive design considerations. • Reporting findings: issue logs, severity ratings, and recommendations.

Day 5: Interaction Design Principles and Prototyping

Objectives:
• Apply core interaction design principles (consistency, feedback, constraints). • Create low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes. • Use iterative design to refine interactions based on feedback. • Understand the role of information architecture in interaction design.

Topics:
• Interaction design principles: consistency, visibility, feedback, constraints. • Information architecture: organisation, labelling, navigation, search. • Low-fidelity prototyping: sketches, wireframes, paper prototypes. • High-fidelity prototyping: tools (Figma, Sketch), interactive mockups. • Iterative design cycle: prototype, test, refine.

Day 6: Advanced Analysis and Metrics

Objectives:
• Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for interaction quality. • Analyse quantitative metrics such as task success rate, time on task, and error rate. • Use analytics tools to track user behaviour and identify interaction issues. • Synthesise qualitative and quantitative findings into actionable insights.

Topics:
• Key metrics: task success, error rates, time on task, satisfaction scores. • Analytics tools: Google Analytics, heatmaps, session recordings. • Combining qualitative and quantitative data for triangulation. • Root cause analysis of interaction problems. • Presenting insights: dashboards, reports, and data visualisation.

Day 7: Practical Integration and Assessment

Objectives:
• Integrate all learned methods into a comprehensive assessment project. • Conduct a full interaction assessment on a real or simulated product. • Produce a professional assessment report with recommendations. • Reflect on the assessment process and plan for continuous improvement.

Topics:
• Capstone project: end-to-end interaction assessment. • Planning and scoping an assessment: objectives, methods, timeline. • Conducting the assessment: research, analysis, evaluation, prototyping. • Compiling a professional report: executive summary, findings, recommendations. • Peer review and feedback session. • Action planning for ongoing interaction improvement.

Practicals

No practicals for this training.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Final Total
Component Out of Weight
Daily Average (multiple choice) 100% 30%
Final Test (multi-answer multiple choice) 100% 70%
Final Total 100%

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).

How it works
  • Certificates are auto-generated on the AATICD LMS as soon as the marks pass the 50% threshold.
  • Each certificate is a branded PDF with the delegate's name, the course title, the unit standard ID, NQF level, credits, and the date of issue.
  • You can download or print your certificate from your LMS dashboard at any time after issue — there's no reissue fee and no expiry date.
  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
Where to find it

Sign in to the LMS, open your dashboard, and your certificates appear under My Certificates. Each entry has a View / Download button and a print option.
