Learning Outcomes

• Demonstrate an understanding of the purpose and the general definitions in the legislation pertaining to traffic officers, road users and vehicles.
• Apply the legal requirements in respect of vehicles and drivers.
• Apply legislation and procedures regarding roadworthiness of vehicles.
• Apply legislation pertaining to the controlling of operators as defined in the National Roads Transport Act.
• Enforce the rules of the road.
• Identify offences for which presumptions must be used.

Course Outline

Practicals

Overview

Practical sessions are integral to this course, allowing learners to apply legislation in simulated enforcement scenarios, conduct vehicle inspections, and practice accident investigation procedures under supervision.

Practical Activities

• Practical 1: Vehicle Roadworthiness Inspection — Learners conduct a systematic inspection of a vehicle to identify defects that render it unroadworthy, using a checklist and documenting findings. (8h)
• Practical 2: Traffic Stop and Enforcement Simulation — Learners role-play as traffic officers conducting lawful vehicle stops, issuing fines, and dealing with non-compliance scenarios. (8h)
• Practical 3: Accident Scene Investigation — Learners respond to a simulated accident scene, secure the area, collect evidence, take measurements, and complete accident reports. (8h)
• Practical 4: Breathalyser and Speed Enforcement — Learners practice using breathalyser devices for alcohol testing and radar/lidar speed measurement devices in controlled settings. (8h)
• Practical 5: Mock Traffic Court and Case Presentation — Learners prepare and present a traffic case in a mock court, including evidence submission and testimony. (8h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.

How it works

• Certificates are auto-generated on the AATICD LMS as soon as the marks pass the 50% threshold.
