Day 1: Introduction to Loss Provisioning and Regulatory Framework

Day 2: Data Requirements and Preparation for Loss Provisioning

Objectives:
• Identify data sources needed for loss provisioning models
• Understand data quality and cleansing techniques
• Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends and patterns
• Prepare datasets for model development

• Estimate LGD using recovery rate modeling
• Calculate EAD based on exposure profiles

Day 4: Building the Loss Provision Funding Model – Stage Allocation

• Calculate 12-month and lifetime expected credit losses

• Determine significant increase in credit risk (SICR)

Overview

Practical sessions are integral to this course, allowing learners to apply theoretical concepts to real-world data. Over 21 hours, participants will build, validate, and implement a loss provision funding model using Excel and statistical software, ensuring hands-on proficiency.

Practical Activities
  • Data Preparation and EDA — Learners clean and explore a provided dataset of loan performance, performing data quality checks and creating visualizations. (4h)
  • Building PD, LGD, and EAD Models — Learners develop statistical models for PD (logistic regression), LGD (beta regression), and EAD (linear regression) using software. (6h)
  • Calculating Expected Credit Losses Under IFRS 9 — Learners implement stage allocation and calculate 12-month and lifetime ECL under multiple macroeconomic scenarios. (5h)
  • Model Validation and Stress Testing — Learners perform backtesting and stress testing on their models, documenting results and limitations. (4h)
  • Capstone: End-to-End Model Build and Presentation — Learners integrate all components into a working model and present their approach and results to peers. (2h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.
