Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of New Venture Opportunities and Market Needs

Objectives:
• Define key concepts: new venture opportunity, market need, and value proposition.
• Identify sources of new venture opportunities (trends, gaps, problems).
• Explain the importance of aligning venture ideas with market demands.
• Distinguish between customer needs, wants, and demands.
• Understand the role of innovation in opportunity recognition.

Topics:
• Introduction to entrepreneurship and new venture creation
• Sources of opportunity: environmental scanning, trends, and disruptions
• Understanding market needs: qualitative vs quantitative research
• The opportunity recognition process
• Value proposition design basics
• Case studies of successful opportunity-market alignment

Day 2: Analysing and Evaluating Market Opportunities

Objectives:
• Conduct market segmentation, targeting, and positioning (STP).
• Apply tools like SWOT and PESTLE to assess opportunities.
• Evaluate market size, growth potential, and competitive landscape.
• Validate market needs through primary and secondary research.
• Use lean startup principles to test assumptions.

Topics:
• Market segmentation and target market identification
• SWOT and PESTLE analysis for opportunity evaluation
• Competitive analysis: Porter's Five Forces
• Market research methods: surveys, interviews, observation
• Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and hypothesis testing
• Financial feasibility: cost, revenue, and break-even analysis

Day 3: Integrating Opportunities with Market Needs and Pitching

Objectives:
• Synthesise opportunity and market data into a coherent business concept.
• Develop a compelling value proposition that addresses market needs.
• Create a pitch deck and present the opportunity convincingly.
• Apply ethical considerations in opportunity exploitation.
• Prepare an action plan for launching the venture.

Topics:
• Building a business model canvas from opportunity analysis
• Crafting a unique value proposition
• Pitching techniques: storytelling, data, and visuals
• Ethical issues in entrepreneurship: fairness, transparency, social impact
• Action planning: milestones, resources, and risk mitigation
• Peer feedback and refinement of venture concepts

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).

  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
