Apply Anatomical And Physiological Knowledge To Golfing Activity Training

SAQA US 120192 | NQF 5 | Credits 5 | Duration 2 Days
From $832 per delegate

Description

This course equips golfing professionals and coaches with the anatomical and physiological knowledge necessary to optimize golf performance and prevent injury. Learners will apply biomechanical principles to analyze and improve golf swings, while understanding the body's response to training loads.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply anatomical terminology and knowledge of major muscle groups to analyze golf swing mechanics.
  • Evaluate the physiological demands of golf, including energy systems and cardiovascular responses.
  • Design golf-specific training programs that incorporate periodization and recovery principles.
  • Demonstrate corrective exercises for common golf-related muscle imbalances and injuries.
  • Implement warm-up and cool-down protocols based on physiological principles to enhance performance and reduce injury risk.
  • Analyze the biomechanics of the golf swing to identify and correct faulty movement patterns.

Target Audience

This course is designed for golf coaches, trainers, and serious golfers seeking to deepen their understanding of human movement in golf. It is also suitable for fitness professionals working with golfers.

Prerequisites

None — open enrollment.

Course Outline

Day 1: Foundational Anatomy and Physiology for Golf

Objectives:
• Identify and describe the major anatomical structures involved in the golf swing.
• Explain the physiological principles of muscle contraction and energy systems relevant to golf.
• Relate joint movements and muscle actions to key phases of the golf swing.
• Understand the role of the nervous system in coordinating movement and balance.

Topics:
• Overview of skeletal system: bones and joints critical to golf (spine, hips, shoulders, wrists).
• Major muscle groups: prime movers, synergists, and stabilizers in the golf swing.
• Muscle contraction types: concentric, eccentric, isometric in swing phases.
• Energy systems: ATP-PC, glycolytic, and oxidative systems for golf performance.
• Nervous system: proprioception, motor control, and coordination.
• Introduction to kinesiology: planes of motion and axes used in golf.
• Practical session: Palpation and identification of key anatomical landmarks.

Day 2: Applied Anatomy and Physiology in Golf Training

Objectives:
• Analyse the biomechanical demands of the golf swing using anatomical knowledge.
• Develop training programmes that enhance golf-specific strength, flexibility, and endurance.
• Apply physiological principles to prevent common golf injuries.
• Evaluate swing mechanics and prescribe corrective exercises based on anatomical assessment.

Topics:
• Biomechanical analysis of the golf swing: kinetic chain, ground reaction forces, and segmental sequencing.
• Flexibility and mobility: joint range of motion requirements for each swing phase.
• Strength and conditioning: exercises targeting core, hip, and shoulder stability.
• Injury prevention: common golf injuries (low back, elbow, shoulder, wrist) and anatomical risk factors.
• Physiological monitoring: heart rate, fatigue management, and recovery strategies.
• Practical session: Functional movement screening and corrective exercise prescription.
• Case studies: Applying anatomical knowledge to improve swing efficiency and reduce injury risk.
• Assessment: Practical demonstration of exercise programme design based on anatomical analysis.

Practicals

No practicals for this training.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Final Total
Component Out of Weight
Daily Average (multiple choice) 100% 30%
Final Test (multi-answer multiple choice) 100% 70%
Final Total 100%

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).

How it works
  • Certificates are auto-generated on the AATICD LMS as soon as the marks pass the 50% threshold.
  • Each certificate is a branded PDF with the delegate's name, the course title, the unit standard ID, NQF level, credits, and the date of issue.
  • You can download or print your certificate from your LMS dashboard at any time after issue — there's no reissue fee and no expiry date.
  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
Where to find it

Sign in to the LMS, open your dashboard, and your certificates appear under My Certificates. Each entry has a View / Download button and a print option.
