Day 1: Introduction to Rope Access Team Supervision and Advanced Rescue

• Conduct a basic risk assessment for rope access operations.

Day 2: Team Management and Rescue Planning

• Plan and coordinate rope access team activities.
• Develop rescue plans for various scenarios.
• Communicate effectively with team members and clients.
• Apply problem-solving techniques in simulated rescue situations.

• Team coordination and communication protocols
• Rescue plan development: victim assessment, anchor selection, and route planning
• Mechanical advantage systems for rescue

Day 3: Supervised Practical Application and Assessment

• Supervise a rope access team during a simulated operation.

Overview

Practical sessions are integral to this course, allowing learners to apply supervisory and rescue techniques in controlled environments. Hands-on exercises reinforce theoretical knowledge and develop critical skills for real-world application.

Practical Activities

Equipment Inspection and Rigging — Learners inspect personal protective equipment and rig advanced anchor systems under supervision. (3h)
Rescue Scenario: Pick-off and Lower — In teams, learners plan and execute a pick-off rescue of a simulated injured worker from height. (3h)
Team Supervision Exercise — Learners take turns supervising a team performing a rope access task, including safety briefings and monitoring. (3h)
Highline Rescue Setup and Operation — Learners rig and operate a highline system to rescue a casualty from a remote location. (3h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Practicals 30% + Daily Average 20% + Final Test 50%).
