This course equips learners with the practical skills to manage stock control and inventory at a point of sale, ensuring accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting. Participants will understand the principles of inventory management, including stocktaking procedures, variance analysis, and the use of POS systems to maintain optimal stock levels and minimise losses.

Day 2: Inventory Classification and Categorisation

• Apply ABC analysis to categorise inventory.
• Differentiate between types of inventory (raw materials, WIP, finished goods).
• Understand the importance of stock categorisation for control.
• Use classification to prioritise management efforts.

• ABC analysis methodology.
• Inventory types and their characteristics.
• Fast-moving vs slow-moving stock.
• Seasonal and perishable stock considerations.
• Practical exercise: Classify a sample inventory list.

Day 3: Stock Recording Systems and Documentation

Objectives:
• Identify different stock recording systems (manual vs electronic).
• Complete stock-related documentation accurately.
• Understand the role of bin cards, stock sheets, and requisition forms.
• Maintain accurate stock records.

• Manual recording systems: bin cards, stock ledgers.

Day 4: Stock Receiving and Quality Control

• Describe procedures for receiving stock.

• Handle discrepancies in deliveries.
• Record received stock accurately.

• Quality control checks: expiry dates, damage, specifications.

Day 5: Stock Storage and Warehouse Organisation

• Implement FIFO and FEFO methods.
• Organise warehouse layout for accessibility.
• Understand safety and security in storage.

Day 6: Stock Issuing and Dispatch Procedures

• Describe procedures for issuing stock.

• Prepare stock for dispatch.
• Maintain accurate dispatch records.

• Internal transfers vs external sales.

Day 7: Stock Counting and Cycle Counting

• Differentiate between physical stocktake and cycle counting.
• Plan and conduct a physical stock count.

Day 9: Inventory Performance Metrics and Analysis

• Calculate key inventory KPIs.
• Analyse inventory turnover and days on hand.
• Identify slow-moving and obsolete stock.
• Use metrics to improve inventory decisions.

• Days inventory outstanding (DIO).
• Stock-to-sales ratio.
• Identifying obsolete and dead stock.
• Practical exercise: Analyse a sample inventory report.

Day 10: Technology in Inventory Management

Objectives:
• Understand the role of inventory management software.
• Use barcoding and RFID for tracking.
• Integrate POS systems with inventory.
• Leverage data for forecasting.

Day 11: Stock Control Policies and Procedures

• Establish procedures for different scenarios.

• Procedures for returns, damages, and write-offs.

Day 12: Practical Integration and Assessment

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
