Day 1: Introduction to Casino Operations and Table Games

• Basic rules and procedures for each game.

• Introduction to surveillance and security protocols.

Day 2: Game Rules and Payout Procedures

Objectives:
• Explain detailed rules for Blackjack and Roulette.
• Calculate correct payouts for winning bets.
• Demonstrate knowledge of common player mistakes and disputes.
• Understand the role of the supervisor in ensuring accurate payouts.

Topics:
• Blackjack: hand values, dealer rules, insurance, splitting.
• Roulette: inside and outside bets, odds, payout calculations.
• Payout procedures for Blackjack and Roulette.
• Handling disputes and player errors.
• Supervisor's checklist for game verification.
• Practical examples of payout calculations.

Day 3: Poker and Baccarat Supervision

Objectives:
• Describe rules and variations of Poker and Baccarat.
• Identify common poker hand rankings and betting structures.
• Explain baccarat drawing rules and commission handling.
• Apply supervisory techniques specific to these games.

• Texas Hold'em and other poker variants.
• Hand rankings, betting rounds, and dealer responsibilities.
• Baccarat: player, banker, tie bets; drawing rules.
• Commission collection and tracking.
• Supervisor's role in poker tournaments.

Day 4: Chip Handling and Drop Procedures

Objectives:
• Demonstrate proper chip handling and security measures.
• Explain drop box procedures and reconciliation.
• Understand the importance of accurate chip counts.
• Identify common errors in chip handling and how to prevent them.

• Chip denominations, colours, and security features.
• Fills, credits, and chip floats.
• Drop box setup, removal, and transport.
• Reconciliation of table drops.
• Supervisor's role in monitoring chip movement.
• Preventing chip theft and fraud.

Day 5: Surveillance and Security Protocols

Objectives:
• Describe the role of surveillance in table games supervision.
• Identify suspicious behaviours and potential cheating methods.
• Understand incident reporting procedures.
• Apply security protocols to protect assets and patrons.

Topics:
• Surveillance systems and camera coverage.
• Common cheating techniques: card marking, collusion, past posting.
• Identifying problem gamblers and responsible gaming.
• Incident reporting and documentation.
• Emergency procedures and evacuation.
• Supervisor's coordination with security team.

Day 6: Customer Service and Conflict Resolution

Objectives:
• Apply effective communication skills with patrons.
• Resolve disputes and complaints professionally.
• Manage difficult situations and intoxicated players.
• Promote a positive gaming experience.

• Active listening and de-escalation techniques.

Day 7: Compliance, Ethics, and Responsible Gaming

Objectives:
• Understand legal and ethical obligations of supervisors.
• Apply responsible gaming practices.
• Recognise money laundering indicators.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulations.

• South African gambling laws and regulations.
• Code of conduct and ethical decision-making.

Day 8: Practical Integration and Assessment

• Integrate all supervisory skills in simulated scenarios.

• Complete written and practical assessments.

Overview

Practical sessions provide hands-on experience in supervising table games, handling chips, calculating payouts, and managing customer interactions. Learners will apply theoretical knowledge in simulated casino environments to build confidence and competence.

Practical Activities
  • Game Supervision Simulation — Learners take turns supervising Blackjack, Roulette, and Poker tables in a simulated casino setting, ensuring game integrity and accurate payouts. (8h)
  • Chip Handling and Drop Procedures — Practice chip fills, credits, and drop box procedures. Learners reconcile chip counts and complete drop documentation. (6h)
  • Customer Service and Conflict Resolution — Role-play scenarios involving customer complaints, disputes, and difficult patrons. Practice de-escalation and resolution techniques. (4h)
  • Surveillance and Security Awareness — Observe surveillance footage and identify suspicious behaviours. Practice incident reporting and coordination with security. (3h)
  • Final Practical Assessment — Learners demonstrate all supervisory skills in an integrated simulation, assessed by the trainer against unit standard criteria. (3h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.
