• Ensure data integrity throughout processing.

Topics:
• Data entry and coding
• Data cleaning (handling missing values, duplicates, outliers)
• Verification techniques (cross-referencing, range checks)
• Using Excel for data sorting, filtering, and basic calculations
• Introduction to database concepts (tables, queries)
• Practical exercise: cleaning a sample dataset and verifying against source documents

Day 4: Data Analysis and Interpretation

Objectives:
• Perform basic statistical analysis on transport data.
• Interpret data to identify trends and anomalies.
• Generate summary reports and dashboards.
• Use charts and graphs to visualise data.
• Apply analysis to support operational decisions.

Topics:
• Descriptive statistics (mean, median, mode, range)
• Trend analysis (fuel consumption, route efficiency, downtime)
• Data visualisation (bar charts, line graphs, pie charts)
• Creating summary reports
• Introduction to pivot tables in Excel
• Practical exercise: analysing a week's fuel usage data and presenting findings

Day 5: Data Reporting and Compliance

Objectives:
• Prepare standard reports for internal and regulatory purposes.
• Ensure reports meet compliance requirements.
• Communicate data insights to stakeholders.
• Understand data privacy and confidentiality.
• Apply quality assurance procedures to reports.

• Regulatory reporting (e.g., dangerous goods, driver hours)
• Report formatting and presentation standards
• Data privacy (POPIA) and confidentiality
• Quality assurance of reports
• Practical exercise: generating a compliance report from a dataset

Day 6: Integration, Review, and Assessment

Objectives:
• Integrate all stages of data collation and processing.
• Review the data management lifecycle from collection to reporting.
• Demonstrate competence through a practical assessment.
• Identify areas for continuous improvement.
• Apply knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Topics:
• Recap of the data management lifecycle
• Case studies: common data challenges in road transport
• Best practices for data management
• Continuous improvement and feedback loops
• Final assessment (written and practical)
• Course evaluation and certification

Practicals

16 hours of practicals To be conducted online or on-campus or in-house
Overview

The practicals provide hands-on experience with real transport data, reinforcing theoretical concepts. Learners will collect, process, analyse, and report on data using standard tools and templates, ensuring they can apply skills directly in the workplace.

Practical Activities
  • Manual Data Collection and Entry — Learners complete a simulated trip sheet from a freight run, then enter the data into a spreadsheet template. (3h)
  • Data Cleaning and Verification — Learners receive a raw dataset with errors (missing values, duplicates, outliers) and clean it using Excel functions. (4h)
  • Data Analysis and Visualisation — Using a cleaned dataset, learners calculate key metrics (average fuel consumption, distance per trip) and create charts. (4h)
  • Compliance Report Generation — Learners prepare a regulatory compliance report based on a dataset of driver hours and vehicle inspections. (3h)
  • Integrated Practical Assessment — Learners receive a complete scenario and must collate, process, analyse, and report on the data independently. (2h)

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course via daily exercises, scored practical assignments, and a final summative test at the end.

Practical Assignments — 30%

Practical assignments are observed and scored against a rubric during the practical sessions. Each delegate's practical mark is averaged into a single 100% score and contributes 30% to the final total.

Daily Exercises — 20%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 20% to the final total.

Final Test — 50%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 50% to the overall mark.

Final Total
Component Out of Weight
Practical Assignments (rubric-scored) 100% 30%
Daily Average (multiple choice) 100% 20%
Final Test (multi-answer multiple choice) 100% 50%
Final Total 100%

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Practicals 30% + Daily Average 20% + Final Test 50%).

How it works
  • Certificates are auto-generated on the AATICD LMS as soon as the marks pass the 50% threshold.
  • Each certificate is a branded PDF with the delegate's name, the course title, the unit standard ID, NQF level, credits, and the date of issue.
  • You can download or print your certificate from your LMS dashboard at any time after issue — there's no reissue fee and no expiry date.
  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
Where to find it

Sign in to the LMS, open your dashboard, and your certificates appear under My Certificates. Each entry has a View / Download button and a print option.
