This course equips leaders in extension and advisory services with the competencies to demonstrate professionalism and manage quality within their practice. Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of Professional Leadership and Quality Management

Objectives:
• Define professional leadership and quality management concepts.
• Understand the relationship between leadership and quality in professional practice.
• Identify key quality management principles and frameworks.
• Recognise the role of a professional leader in fostering a quality culture.

Topics:
• Introduction to professional leadership: definitions and characteristics.
• Overview of quality management: history, principles, and importance.
• The link between leadership and quality: creating a quality culture.
• Key quality management frameworks: ISO 9001, TQM, and others.
• Roles and responsibilities of a professional leader in quality.
• Ethical considerations in leadership and quality management.

Day 2: Quality Management Systems and Standards

Objectives:
• Explain the components of a quality management system (QMS).
• Understand the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.
• Apply quality management principles to professional practice.
• Develop a process approach to quality management.

Topics:
• Structure and documentation of a QMS.
• ISO 9001:2015 requirements: context, leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation, improvement.
• Process approach: identifying processes, inputs, outputs, and interactions.
• Quality policy and objectives: setting and communicating.
• Risk-based thinking in quality management.
• Practical exercise: mapping a simple process.

Day 3: Leadership Skills for Quality Improvement

Objectives:
• Identify leadership styles that promote quality.
• Develop communication and motivational skills for quality teams.
• Use coaching and mentoring to enhance team performance.
• Apply change management principles to quality initiatives.

Topics:
• Leadership styles: transformational, transactional, servant, and situational.
• Effective communication: active listening, feedback, and conflict resolution.
• Motivating teams for quality: recognition and reward systems.
• Coaching and mentoring for continuous improvement.
• Change management models: Kotter's 8-step, ADKAR.
• Overcoming resistance to quality changes.

Day 4: Quality Tools and Techniques for Continuous Improvement

Objectives:
• Apply basic quality tools to analyse and improve processes.
• Use root cause analysis to identify problems.
• Implement PDCA cycles for continuous improvement.
• Understand statistical process control (SPC) fundamentals.

Topics:
• Seven basic quality tools: flowcharts, check sheets, histograms, Pareto charts, cause-and-effect diagrams, scatter diagrams, control charts.
• Root cause analysis: 5 Whys, fishbone diagram.
• PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle: steps and application.
• Introduction to statistical process control: variation and capability.
• Benchmarking and best practices.
• Practical exercise: using a quality tool on a case study.

Day 5: Performance Measurement and Auditing

Objectives:
• Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality.
• Conduct internal audits to assess QMS effectiveness.
• Use audit findings to drive improvement.
• Understand the audit process and reporting.

Topics:
• Performance measurement: KPIs, balanced scorecard, dashboards.
• Internal auditing: purpose, types, and principles.
• Audit planning: scope, criteria, and checklists.
• Conducting audits: opening meeting, evidence gathering, and closing meeting.
• Audit reporting: nonconformities, observations, and corrective actions.
• Follow-up and closure of audits.
• Practical exercise: simulated audit.

Day 6: Strategic Quality Planning and Leadership

Objectives:
• Align quality goals with organisational strategy.
• Develop a quality improvement plan.
• Lead cross-functional teams in quality projects.
• Evaluate the impact of leadership on quality outcomes.

Topics:
• Strategic planning: vision, mission, and quality objectives.
• Quality function deployment (QFD) for customer focus.
• Leading cross-functional teams: collaboration and conflict management.
• Project management for quality initiatives: scope, timeline, resources.
• Cost of quality: prevention, appraisal, failure costs.
• Case study: developing a quality improvement plan.

Day 7: Integration, Review, and Action Planning

Objectives:
• Synthesise learning into a comprehensive quality leadership approach.
• Create a personal action plan for implementing quality management.
• Evaluate the role of leadership in sustaining quality.
• Present and receive feedback on action plans.

Topics:
• Review of key concepts: leadership, QMS, tools, auditing, strategy.
• Sustaining quality: continuous improvement culture.
• Personal action plan: goals, resources, timeline, measures.
• Peer feedback and refinement of action plans.
• Course evaluation and certification preparation.
• Group discussion: challenges and solutions in professional practice.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
