Day 1: Introduction to Business Insurance and Financial Solutions

Objectives:

• Identify key stakeholders in the insurance industry
• Differentiate between short-term and long-term insurance products
• Recognize the regulatory framework governing insurance in South Africa
• Appreciate the importance of ethics and consumer protection

• Distinction between short-term (non-life) and long-term (life) insurance
• Key legislation: Long-term Insurance Act, FAIS Act, and FSCA role

Day 2: Risk Management and Needs Analysis for Businesses

Objectives:
• Define risk management and its importance in business
• Conduct a basic risk assessment for a small business
• Identify insurable and non-insurable risks
• Perform a financial needs analysis for business clients
• Link risk exposure to appropriate insurance solutions

• Principles of risk management: identification, evaluation, mitigation
• Types of business risks: operational, financial, strategic, compliance
• Insurable risks: property, liability, business interruption, key person

Day 3: Long-Term Insurance Products for Business

• Describe key long-term insurance products relevant to businesses
• Explain how life insurance, disability cover, and critical illness policies work
• Understand key person insurance and buy-and-sell agreements
• Compare different policy types: whole life, term, endowment, and annuities
• Evaluate product features and benefits for business clients

Day 4: Short-Term Insurance Products for Business

Day 5: Investment and Savings Products as Financial Solutions

• Differentiate between guaranteed and market-linked products
• Assess the suitability of investment products for business clients
• Integrate investment products into long-term financial plans

Day 6: Policy Administration, Claims, and Client Servicing

Objectives:
• Understand the end-to-end policy lifecycle from inception to claim
• Explain the claims process and common pitfalls
• Develop skills in client communication and complaint resolution
• Apply regulatory requirements for record keeping and disclosure
• Use technology for policy management and client servicing

• Policy lifecycle: application, underwriting, acceptance, renewal
• Claims process: notification, documentation, assessment, settlement
• Common claim disputes and how to avoid them
• Client relationship management: regular reviews and updates
• Regulatory compliance: FAIS disclosure, record keeping, and reporting

Day 7: Integrated Business Insurance Solutions and Ethics

• Synthesize knowledge to design a comprehensive insurance solution
• Apply ethical decision-making in complex client scenarios
• Present a financial plan to a business client
• Evaluate the impact of insurance on business sustainability
• Prepare for assessment and certification

• Designing an integrated insurance plan for a case study business
• Balancing cost, coverage, and client needs
• Ethical dilemmas: disclosure, conflicts of interest, and suitability
• Presentation skills: delivering a financial plan to a client
• Review of key concepts and exam preparation

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
