Course Outline

Day 1: Introduction to Golf Fitness and Anatomy Basics

Objectives:
• Understand the role of fitness in golf performance and injury prevention.
• Identify major muscle groups used in the golf swing.
• Define key anatomical terms relevant to golf fitness.
• Recognise the importance of posture and alignment in golf.
• Discuss the principles of safe exercise progression.

• Postural assessment basics.
• Safety guidelines for exercise.
• Introduction to flexibility and mobility.

Day 2: Flexibility and Mobility for Golf

Objectives:
• Differentiate between flexibility and mobility.
• Perform dynamic stretches for pre-round preparation.
• Identify common flexibility limitations in golfers.
• Apply static stretching techniques for cool-down.
• Develop a basic flexibility routine for golf.

Topics:
• Flexibility vs. mobility: definitions and application.
• Dynamic stretching for warm-up.
• Static stretching for recovery.
• Hip and thoracic spine mobility exercises.
• Common flexibility deficits in golfers.
• Designing a simple flexibility programme.

Day 3: Core Strength and Stability

Objectives:
• Explain the role of the core in power transfer and balance.
• Perform core exercises specific to golf demands.
• Differentiate between core strength and core stability.
• Demonstrate proper technique for planks, rotations, and bridges.
• Integrate core exercises into a training session.

• Breathing mechanics and core engagement.

Day 4: Strength Training Fundamentals for Golf

• Understand the principles of resistance training for golf.
• Identify key exercises for lower body strength.
• Perform upper body strength exercises safely.
• Apply proper lifting techniques.
• Design a basic strength programme for golfers.

Topics:
• Resistance training principles: overload, specificity.
• Lower body exercises: squats, lunges.
• Upper body exercises: rows, presses.
• Rotational strength exercises.
• Programme design: sets, reps, rest.
• Safety and spotting techniques.

Day 5: Power and Explosiveness for Golf

Objectives:
• Define power and its importance in golf.
• Execute plyometric exercises safely.
• Develop rotational power using medicine balls.
• Differentiate between strength and power training.
• Integrate power exercises into a golf fitness routine.

Topics:
• Power vs. strength: physiological differences.
• Plyometric fundamentals: jumping and bounding.
• Medicine ball rotational throws.
• Olympic lift variations for power.
• Power training progression.
• Combining strength and power in a session.

Day 6: Cardiovascular Fitness, Nutrition, and Recovery

Objectives:
• Understand the role of cardiovascular fitness in golf endurance.
• Identify appropriate cardiovascular training modalities.
• Describe basic nutrition principles for golf performance.
• Explain the importance of hydration and recovery.
• Develop a recovery plan including sleep and active recovery.

• Cardiovascular training for golf: walking, interval training.
• Energy systems used in golf.
• Macronutrients and timing for golfers.
• Hydration strategies.
• Sleep and recovery techniques.
• Active recovery and stretching.

Day 7: Programme Design and Practical Integration

Objectives:
• Design a comprehensive golf fitness programme.
• Integrate flexibility, strength, power, and cardio components.
• Adapt exercises for different fitness levels.
• Evaluate and modify a programme based on individual needs.
• Present a sample weekly training plan.

Topics:
• Periodisation principles for golf.
• Sample weekly training plan.
• Exercise selection and progression.
• Addressing common golf injuries.
• Individualising programmes.
• Practical session: designing a programme for a case study.

Practicals

No practicals for this training.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
