Description

This course prepares participants for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification exam. It covers the latest PMBOK® Guide processes, knowledge areas, and best practices, ensuring candidates can apply project management principles effectively in any industry.

Prerequisites

Participants must have a secondary degree (high school diploma or equivalent) and at least 36 months of project management experience, or a four-year degree and 24 months of experience.

Course Outline

Day 1: Foundations of Project Management and PMP® Framework

Objectives:
• Understand the PMP® certification requirements and exam structure
• Define project management fundamentals and the role of a project manager
• Differentiate between project life cycles and organizational influences
• Identify key project management process groups and knowledge areas

Topics:
• Overview of PMP® certification: eligibility, application process, and exam format
• What is a project? Characteristics, constraints, and success factors
• Project management process groups: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling, Closing
• The 10 knowledge areas: Integration, Scope, Schedule, Cost, Quality, Resource, Communications, Risk, Procurement, Stakeholder
• Organizational structures: functional, matrix, projectized
• Project life cycles: predictive, iterative, incremental, adaptive

Day 2: Initiating and Planning Processes

Objectives:
• Develop a project charter and identify stakeholders
• Create a comprehensive project management plan
• Define scope and collect requirements effectively
• Establish the work breakdown structure (WBS)

Topics:
• Initiating: project charter, stakeholder identification, and stakeholder analysis
• Planning: developing the project management plan
• Scope management: requirements collection, scope definition, and WBS creation
• Schedule management: defining activities, sequencing, estimating durations, and developing schedule
• Cost management: estimating costs, determining budget
• Quality management: quality planning, quality metrics

Day 3: Executing, Monitoring, and Controlling Processes

Objectives:
• Manage project execution and lead the project team
• Monitor and control project work through performance measurements
• Manage changes using integrated change control
• Control scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risks

Topics:
• Executing: directing and managing project work, managing knowledge, obtaining resources
• Team management: developing, managing, and leading the project team
• Communication management: managing communications, reporting performance
• Monitoring and controlling: integrated change control, verifying scope, controlling schedule and costs
• Quality control: quality audits, process improvement
• Risk monitoring: risk reassessment, risk audits, reserves analysis

Day 4: Advanced Topics – Risk, Procurement, and Stakeholder Management

Objectives:
• Implement risk management strategies including quantitative and qualitative analysis
• Manage procurement processes from planning to closing
• Engage stakeholders effectively throughout the project
• Understand ethical considerations and professional responsibility

Topics:
• Risk management: identify risks, qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, plan risk responses
• Procurement management: plan procurements, conduct procurements, control procurements
• Stakeholder management: stakeholder engagement planning, managing engagement, monitoring engagement
• Professional responsibility: PMI Code of Ethics, conflict of interest, confidentiality
• Agile and hybrid approaches: integrating agile practices with PMP® framework

Day 5: Exam Preparation, Practice, and Final Review

Objectives:
• Apply PMP® concepts through mock exams and scenario-based questions
• Identify knowledge gaps and reinforce weak areas
• Develop a study plan and exam strategy for PMP® success
• Review key formulas, tools, and techniques

Topics:
• Mock exam: 200 questions simulating PMP® exam conditions
• Review of answers: detailed explanation of correct/incorrect responses
• Key formulas: earned value management (CPI, SPI, EAC, etc.), PERT, critical path
• Exam strategies: time management, elimination techniques, question interpretation
• Final Q&A and personalized study plan

Practicals

No practicals for this training.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).

  • Each certificate is a branded PDF with the delegate's name, the course title, the unit standard ID, NQF level, credits, and the date of issue.
  • You can download or print your certificate from your LMS dashboard at any time after issue — there's no reissue fee and no expiry date.
  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
