Day 1: Introduction to Distribution Centre Operations and Stock Dispatch

• Describe the flow of goods from receiving to dispatch.

Day 2: Stock Control and Inventory Management Principles

Objectives:
• Explain inventory management concepts relevant to dispatch.
• Understand stock accuracy and its impact on dispatch.
• Apply FIFO and FEFO principles.
• Identify stock discrepancies and their causes.
• Use basic stock control documentation.

• Inventory types and stock rotation.
• Cycle counting and stocktaking basics.
• FIFO vs FEFO: application in dispatch.
• Stock discrepancies: overages, shortages, damages.
• Documentation: bin cards, stock sheets, transfer notes.

Day 3: Order Picking and Packing Procedures

• Describe different order picking methods.
• Apply picking techniques to minimise errors.
• Understand packing standards for safe transport.
• Use packing slips and labels correctly.
• Demonstrate proper handling of fragile or hazardous items.

• Picking methods: zone, wave, batch, piece.
• Pick-to-light, voice, and RF scanning technologies.
• Packing materials and equipment.
• Packaging for different product types.
• Labelling requirements: barcodes, shipping labels.
• Quality checks during packing.
• Handling special items: fragile, hazardous, perishable.
• Error prevention techniques.

Day 4: Dispatch Documentation and Systems

Objectives:
• Complete dispatch documentation accurately.
• Understand the role of waybills, delivery notes, and invoices.
• Use a WMS to process dispatch transactions.
• Verify orders against dispatch documents.
• Apply data capture and record-keeping procedures.

• Key dispatch documents: picking list, packing slip, delivery note, waybill.
• Invoice and proof of delivery.
• Data entry in WMS: order confirmation, dispatch updates.
• Barcode scanning and RFID in dispatch.
• Document flow and filing.

Day 5: Loading and Transportation Coordination

• Plan loading sequences for efficiency and safety.
• Apply loading techniques to prevent damage.
• Coordinate with transport providers.
• Understand vehicle types and load capacities.
• Ensure compliance with transport regulations.

• Loading bay safety and procedures.
• Loading sequence: weight distribution, stacking.
• Use of loading equipment: forklifts, pallet jacks, dock levellers.
• Securing loads: straps, shrink wrap, dunnage.

Day 6: Quality Assurance and Returns Processing

Objectives:
• Conduct quality checks before dispatch.
• Identify and handle damaged or incorrect items.
• Process returns (reverse logistics) according to policy.
• Complete returns documentation.
• Implement corrective actions for quality issues.

• Respond to emergencies in the dispatch environment.

Day 8: Performance Measurement and Process Improvement

• Measure dispatch performance using key metrics.
• Identify areas for improvement in dispatch processes.
• Apply basic lean principles to reduce waste.
• Use problem-solving techniques to address issues.
• Contribute to team performance goals.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).
