Description

This course equips corporate facilitators with the skills to design and implement multimedia learning experiences that enhance engagement and knowledge retention. Day 1: Foundations of Multimedia Learning

Objectives:

• Identify the principles of cognitive load theory.
• Distinguish between different multimedia elements (text, audio, video, graphics).
• Recognise the role of learner engagement in multimedia design.

• Introduction to multimedia learning theory.
• Cognitive load theory and its implications for design.
• Types of multimedia elements and their functions.
• Overview of corporate training needs and multimedia solutions.
• Principles of learner engagement and motivation.
• Ethical considerations in multimedia use.

Day 2: Learning Theories and Design Models

Objectives:
• Apply behaviourist, cognitivist, and constructivist theories to multimedia design.
• Compare instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM).
• Select appropriate models for corporate training contexts.
• Analyse case studies of multimedia learning interventions.

Topics:
• Overview of learning theories relevant to multimedia.
• Behaviourist approaches: drill-and-practice, feedback.
• Cognitivist approaches: chunking, dual coding.
• Constructivist approaches: problem-based learning, simulations.
• Instructional design models: ADDIE, SAM, rapid prototyping.
• Case study analysis: successful corporate multimedia training.

Day 3: Visual Design Principles for Learning

Objectives:
• Apply principles of visual hierarchy and layout.
• Use colour theory and typography effectively.
• Design graphics and infographics for learning.
• Evaluate visual design in existing training materials.

• Principles of visual hierarchy and Gestalt theory.
• Colour theory: psychological impact and accessibility.
• Typography: readability and font selection.
• Creating effective infographics and diagrams.
• Visual design for slide decks and e-learning modules.
• Accessibility standards (WCAG) in visual design.

Day 4: Audio and Video Production Basics

Objectives:
• Plan and script audio and video content for training.
• Record and edit basic audio clips.
• Capture and edit simple video footage.
• Integrate audio and video into learning modules.

Topics:
• Scriptwriting for instructional audio and video.
• Audio recording techniques: microphone selection, environment.
• Basic audio editing using free tools (e.g., Audacity).
• Video recording: lighting, framing, and composition.
• Video editing fundamentals (e.g., using OpenShot).
• Synchronising audio and video for clarity.

Day 5: Interactive Multimedia and Simulations

Objectives:
• Design interactive elements (quizzes, drag-and-drop, branching).
• Create simple simulations for skill practice.
• Use authoring tools to build interactivity.
• Assess the effectiveness of interactive learning activities.

Topics:
• Types of interactivity: quizzes, scenarios, games.
• Branching scenarios for decision-making skills.
• Introduction to authoring tools (e.g., H5P, Articulate Rise).
• Building a simple simulation or serious game.
• Feedback mechanisms and scoring.
• Evaluating learner performance through interactivity.

Day 6: Mobile Learning and Responsive Design

Objectives:
• Apply principles of mobile learning (m-learning).
• Design responsive multimedia content for various devices.
• Use microlearning strategies for on-the-go training.
• Test and optimise content for mobile delivery.

• Characteristics of mobile learning: context, ubiquity.
• Responsive design: adapting content for screens.
• Microlearning: bite-sized modules for mobile.
• Authoring tools for mobile-friendly content.
• Testing usability on smartphones and tablets.
• Bandwidth considerations and offline access.

Day 7: Assessment and Evaluation in Multimedia Learning

Objectives:
• Design formative and summative assessments using multimedia.
• Use analytics to track learner progress.
• Evaluate the impact of multimedia training on performance.
• Apply Kirkpatrick’s model to multimedia programmes.

Topics:
• Types of assessments: quizzes, performance tasks, portfolios.
• Embedding assessments in multimedia modules.
• Learning analytics: tracking completion, scores, engagement.
• Kirkpatrick’s four levels of evaluation.
• ROI calculation for multimedia training.
• Continuous improvement through feedback loops.

Day 8: Facilitation and Blended Learning Integration

Objectives:
• Integrate multimedia into facilitator-led sessions.
• Design blended learning pathways.
• Manage virtual classrooms and webinars effectively.
• Support learners in self-paced multimedia environments.

• Blended learning models: rotation, flex, enriched virtual.
• Role of the facilitator in multimedia-rich environments.
• Virtual facilitation tools (Zoom, Teams, breakout rooms).
• Managing discussion forums and collaborative activities.
• Learner support strategies: FAQs, help desks, peer support.
• Time management for blended delivery.

Day 9: Capstone Project and Practical Application

Objectives:
• Design a complete multimedia learning module for a corporate topic.
• Apply all principles learned throughout the course.
• Present and receive peer and facilitator feedback.
• Reflect on personal learning and future application.

Topics:
• Project brief: corporate training scenario.
• Storyboarding and asset planning.
• Development of multimedia module (using chosen tools).
• Peer review and constructive feedback.
• Final presentation and demonstration.
• Reflection on learning journey and action plan.

Practicals

No practicals for this training.

This course is made up of exercises and case studies delivered alongside the theory — no separate practical sessions are required to complete it.

Summatives

Each delegate is assessed continuously throughout the course and a final summative test at the end.

Daily Exercises — 30%

Every training day ends with a multiple-choice exercise scored out of 100%. The scores from each daily exercise are averaged across the duration of the course to produce a Daily Average mark, which contributes 30% to the final total.

Final Test — 70%

On the last day a final summative test is written. It is a multiple-choice paper with multiple-answer questions: each question may have more than one correct option, and a single wrong selection on a question marks the entire question wrong — no partial credit. The final test is scored out of 100% and contributes 70% to the overall mark.

All marks are recorded on the AATICD LMS and visible to each learner under their account.

Certificate

Certificate of Completion

Awarded to delegates who achieve an overall mark of 50% or higher on the Final Total (Daily Average 30% + Final Test 70%).

  • If you scored under 50% you can sit the final test again at the next scheduled session at no extra cost.
